The Typical Intro and Welcome…

January 23rd, 2009

Hi all!

I am Rachel Eng and currently a graduating senior at the University of Texas at Austin. Hook Em Horns! I haven’t blogged in quite a while, and I’ve never done so for a class before. I’m more familiar with blogging about my feelings and what’s going on in my life. However, this blog is for MIS 373 Social Networks…I’m sure the URL gives that away.

The reason I’m taking this class is purely for learning. The company that I’ve interned with and will be working full-time once I graduate, Bazaarvoice, is like many other companies in trying to understand how businesses can harness social networks for marketing and selling purposes. Bazaarvoice means “voice of the market,” and we utilize user-generated content such as product reviews, ask & answer, and stories for our clients’ online websites. That is a short description in my own terms…no one is stopping you from going to the official Bazaarvoice website or blog. ;-) Our challenge is how we may use all this UGC for our clients to help their business, as well as prove ROI. We also question how these social networks can relate to how we innovate our product and services to fit the needs of our clients. It’s one big question that we are all trying to figure out. What can social networks do for us?
